It's because of Christmas.

My kids get 2 weeks off school.
I get 1 day off work.
Because of Christmas.

Lots of evergreen trees are cut down.
Those trees are then put up and decorated.
Because of Christmas.

Houses are strung with lights.
Carolers sing from door to door.
Because of Christmas.

Retailers (usually) go from red to black.
Consumers (typically) get deeper into debt.
Because of Christmas.

Songs are sung.
Stockings are hung.
Because of Christmas.

People eat fruitcake (well, some do)
Eggnog is drunk by the gallon.
Because of Christmas.

Cards are sent.
Presents are wrapped.
Because of Christmas.

Kids sit on Santa's lap.
I settle down for a long winter's nap.
Because of Christmas.

It's not because of Hanukkah.
It's not due to Kwanzaa.
It's not Eid Al Adha or Ashura either.

It's not for Walt Disney's birthday,
Or Ira Girshwin's either.
Not for Emily Dickenson,
or Tiger Woods, or even Ozzy Osborne.
Jesus is the reason for the season.

It's not Happy Holidays.
It's not Season's Greetings.
It's Merry Christmas.

It's an Inn with no rooms.
It's a baby in a manger.
It's shepherds and angels.
It's gold, frankincense and myrrh.
It's peace on Earth and goodwill toward men.

It's hope for Mankind.
It's because of Christmas.
